Aqdot, the Cambridge, UK based supramolecular company, is moving into the Italian market after agreeing a partnership with Specialities to distribute its patented Air Quality technology, AqFresh™, throughout Italy.
The technology consists of ‘cucurbiturils’ – barrel-shaped molecules – which are highly effective at capturing volatile organic compounds and malodour molecules. These undesirable molecules are quickly attracted to AqFresh™, removing the malodours and pollutants from the air.
Besides molecular capture, the AqFresh™ technology can be used to release fragrances slowly or can concurrently capture malodours while releasing fragrances and thus enhancing the final user experience. It can also be formulated into a product that to neutralize the most common household allergens including pollen and cat dander.
Formulations of AqFresh™ have been extensively tested to meet consumer product standards in the European Union, North America and Asia and have shown no toxicity to human cells. The absence of toxicity indicates lower risk to skin contact or inhalation. This allows for a wide range of applications in which traditional chemicals cannot be deployed.
