Aqdot and Clariant enter Laundry and Automatic Dishwash Strategic Partnership

Cambridge, UK & Muttenz, Switzerland, July 2nd, 2024 – Aqdot, the specialist chemtech company, is pleased to announce its strategic partnership with Clariant to join forces to establish Aqdot’s patented new odour elimination technology in the laundry and automatic dishwashing market.

The collaboration is focussed on leveraging Aqdot’s revolutionary new molecule capture technology that eliminates odours, whilst also offering a long-lasting fragrance experience through a prolonged fragrance release.

The technology uses cucurbiturils – barrel-shaped molecules with a hollow hydrophobic cavity and polar portals, enabling them to eliminate a broad spectrum of malodour molecules with lasting efficacy, as well as triggering the release of perfume when formulated with fragrance and when malodours arise. Sensory tests have proven that the malodour intensity of textiles treated with malodour is significantly reduced when the odour elimination technology is present in the laundry process, and that in the presence of malodour-intensive soiling in the dishwasher those malodours can be significantly reduced.

Following the successful formulation development and performance testing, Clariant now prepares to commercialize this ground-breaking innovation to market.

Clariant is a Swiss specialty chemicals company offering sustainable high-value products. Clariant supplies a versatile portfolio of high-performance chemicals to a wide range of industries, with personal and home care being one of the largest segments. Its solutions are designed to make end consumer products more efficient, sustainable and with an enriched performance profile.

Tim Wright, Chief Executive of Aqdot, said: “We are delighted to be further developing our partnership with Clariant to bring our revolutionary odour elimination technology to the home care market. The combination of our proprietary technology with Clariant’s world class scientific and go to market capabilities will create significant value for their customers, and in turn for consumers, through meaningful innovation in these sizeable household product categories.”

Dr. Christine Oberbillig, Global Marketing Manager for Home Care at Clariant, said: “We recognise the difficulties that the industry is facing with lingering malodours in synthetic clothing and dishwashers, particularly with the shift of consumer behaviour towards a more sustainable washing and cleaning. This new unique technology has the potential to significantly improve odour elimination in the laundry and automatic dishwashing process and we are delighted that our partnership with Aqdot has led to a global exclusive agreement.”
