Eliminate PCR odour & VOCs with AqFresh™ at CWE

Written by Aqdot | September 4, 2024

Aqdot are delighted to be sponsors of Compounding World Expo 2024.

We will be exhibiting PCR compounded with our AqFresh™ technology for reduced odour & VOCs. The event takes place in Brussels on 11-12 September 2024 and we are exhibiting on stand C1034.

Why is odour elimination critical to increasing use of PCR?

  • The packaging and automotive industries account for nearly 50% of global plastic consumption and yet use just 2.9% and 6.6% PCR respectively.
  • Consumer demand & new regulations (e.g. EU PPWR & ELV) require increased use of PCR in packaging and automotive interiors, but the odour of recycled plastics is limiting their use.
  • New regulations (eg. EU formaldehyde directive) are increasing the focus in the automotive industry on eliminating toxic VOC pollutants.
  • Most odour reduction solutions are costly, only treat the surface, or only remove certain malodours.

AqFresh™ technology significantly reduces a wide range of VOCs & odours

AqFresh™ is an additive technology made of Cucurbiturils – barrel-shaped molecules with a hydrophobic cavity and polar portals – enabling them to capture a wide range of molecules.

VOCs include:

- Formaldehyde

- Benzene

- Xylene

- Acetaldehyde

- Toluene

- TVOCs

- Acrolein

- Ethylbenzene

- Others

AqFresh™ has been incorporated into a wide range of materials

It has been compounded (or added via masterbatch) into rigid plastics, films and fibres and proven to significantly reduce deep-seated contaminants - VOCs & odours. AqFresh™ enables higher concentrations of PCR compounds to be used, whilst meeting industry standards & regulations

AqFresh™ EFFICACY has been proven in analytical & sensory testing

  • In analytical testing, PCR compounded with AqFresh™ achieved an 88% reduction in acetaldehyde vs the control, well below the standard threshold.

  • In sensory testing, PCR with AqFresh™ was >1pt lower on a 6-point scale, bringing it below the VDA-270 standard threshold of 3.0.
